Learn About Candyland Park In Longwood FL

Candyland Park is a recreational and sports facility for the residents of the city of Longwood, FL. The park is in the 32750 ZIP code at 599 Longdale Avenue. The phone number for the park management is (407) 260-3447.

Outdoor Sports

Outdoor sports are the primary activity available at this park, as there are numerous lighted sports fields available. Four of them are for baseball and/or softball, with one field dedicated to T-ball. There are also a pair of practice fields for these sports.

Other lighted sports fields include three tennis courts, multiple basketball courts, and a futsal court. A skate park is also available.

Non Sports

Non sporting amenities are also present. A gazebo shelter offers protection from the sun and rain. Families can enjoy the picnic area, and kids of all ages are welcome on the medium-sized playground and its equipment.

The city of Longwood is home to about 15,000 people in Seminole County. It’s part of the larger area that includes Orlando, Kissimmee, and Sanford.

The park is usable nearly all of the year, given the local climate. It’s a humid subtropical zone, so there are really only two seasons. The hot and rainy season is almost parallel to the hurricane season of the Atlantic, and it runs from May until September. The second warm and dry seasons last from October until April. The humidity and warm weather are the accumulated result of low elevation, proximity to the Tropic of Cancer, and center position in the peninsula. All this adds up to many warm and sunny days at Candyland Park, although some are going to be far more sweaty than others.

During the summer, daily highs are usually 90sF, with lows only in the 70s. Pop-up afternoon storms are a part of daily life here in this season, so plan your park trips accordingly.

Winter is a more pleasant time, with 60F being the average temperature for the month of January. Freezing temperatures only happen two to three nights a year, and residents go years at a time without seeing flurries, much less snow.

Most rainfall happens from June to September. It can include torrential downpours, heavy lightning, severe wind, and even hailstorms. The park is obviously dangerous under such conditions, given the turbulence of air masses passing from the Gulf of Mexico overhead on their way to the Atlantic.

There should be plenty of other kids for your children to play with at the park. Census data reports a quarter of all local homes having household members under the age of 18 living there. Also, a full 12 percent of the city population is children.

Of course, the park is open and welcome to all citizens, not just children. The lighted fields mean that sports can be played even when it’s dark, be it night or just heavy cloud cover. Candyland Park is an ideal place for picnics and playground time, formal youth sports competitions, or just working adults looking to stay in shape and enjoy the great Florida outdoors while in the area.
